Keep Your Car Warm With These 5 Tips

Cars don't like cold weather. This was especially true back when
carburetors were standard and the engine could stall if it was too cold, but
thankfully, modern port injection and fuel injection systems are much less
vulnerable to extreme temperatures. Still, frigid cold isn't good for an
engine, its cooling system, or its passengers. Here are several strategies you
can use to make sure your car stays warm.

Engine Block Heater Maintenance

An engine block heater is something that is usually over looked when
it comes to maintenance on a vehicle. Bring your vehicle into Crosstown Chrysler Jeep Dodge, and have our skilled technicians make sure you block heater
is ready for those cold winter days

Get a Remote Starter

“Warming up” your car, you really only need to let it
run for 30 seconds. The best way to warm your car, is to actually start
driving. But who wants to get into a cold car, after only 30 seconds of warming
up. Crosstown Chrysler Jeep Dodge, can get you set up with a remote
starter. They have a remote starter for every budget. Come in to Crosstown Chrysler Jeep Dodge, and speak with our knowledgeable staff, about what
remote starter will work for you.

Buy a Heat Blanket

This is more about keeping the cabin warm than the engine. If cold
upholstery bothers you, you should get a
heat blanket you can put either on the seat or behind
your back. You can get several blankets with a 12-volt plug that works in cars,
but then for some cars you don't need it because they have a 115-volt household
outlet. The 12-volt blankets won't heat as fast as ones that get 115 volts, but
then 12 is a whole lot more than nothing.

Top Off Your Antifreeze

Your engine cooling system is also an engine warming system. A
radiator could work on pure water alone, but people add antifreeze because it
helps the water absorb heat when the engine is hot and it keeps the water from
freezing at 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The right blend and formula can keep the
coolant fluid moving even at 0 or -10 degrees Fahrenheit, and warming up the coolant
system is one of the big reasons why car owners in cold areas need engine block
heaters.

Keeping your car warm isn't as hard as it used to be, and thanks
to modern technology you can quickly warm up the driver and passengers as well.
Just remember to stay safe when the temperature dips, because it becomes
dangerous fast if you end up stranded.
