The city of Edmonton may not be the first place that comes to mind
when planning a summer trip. However, the capital city of Alberta is buzzing
with activity during the summertime. Take a look at these five fun events and
festivals taking place in Edmonton this summer.
Under The Stars: Outdoor Movies
The Under the Stars summer event is a
way to kick back and enjoy a good movie with loved ones, taking place from July
7 to August 24. Held in various locations including Leefield Community Hall and
Edmonton Garrison Drive-In Movie Night, this outdoor movie event is worth
checking out. Itโs also a great opportunity to drive your recently purchased vehicle
at Crosstown Chrysler Jeep Dodge.
Taste Of Edmonton
Grab a bite to eat and enjoy some good
music at Taste
of Edmonton. From July 18 to July 29, celebrate all the delicious meals Edmonton has
to offer along with a great variety of music to check out at the Capital Plaza.
The festival is free to attend and if you want to sample the dishes and drinks,
it costs $57 for a sheet of 40 tickets.
Edmonton International Fringe Festival
If youโre looking for a unique and artistic
theater event in Edmonton, head to the Edmonton
International Fringe Festival. With a cast of talented actors and
actresses, expect to go on an artistic adventure full of delight and surprise.
The festival takes place from August 16 to August 26 with ticket prices
starting at $10.
Edmonton Folk Music Festival
The
Edmonton Folk Music Festival is a popular annual event in Edmonton. This four-day music
festival takes place on the grassy slopes of Gallagher Hill. Bring a picnic
blanket or lawn chair and settle in for an evening of music that covers folk,
bluegrass, Celtic, blues, world beat, and even alternative rock and gospel.
Individual tickets cost $65 on Thursday and Friday and $75 on Saturday and
Sunday. Alternatively, you can buy a non-transferable or transferable four-day
pass for $189 and $219 respectively. Kids under the age of 11 and seniors over
80 are granted free entry. The festival takes place from Thursday, August
9 to Sunday, August 12.
Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival
Dragon boat racing started in China over 2,000 years ago and this event
celebrates Edmonton's Chinese community. The festival takes place from Aug. 17
to 19. If you're keen to enter, registration opens on July 1. You can enter as
an individual or as a team. If you're a spectator, bring your enthusiasm along
to cheer on the racers. The colorful and decorative boats each have a drummer
and the sound of the rhythmic drumbeats fill the Edmonton air. Head to Louise
McKinney Park for the start of the event or catch a glimpse of participants as
they race down the North Saskatchewan River.
With such a variety of exciting events, summer in Edmonton is
certainly not dull. For those who live in Edmonton, there's plenty of reason to
