5 Places to Go Before and After an Oilers Game

5 Places to Go Before and After an Oilers Game

There's no shortage of good eats and cold drinks in Edmonton. While the downtown ICE District promises to usher in a new era of entertainment with its state-of-the-art Rogers Place arena, retail spaces, and dining options all in one location, you can already find plenty of excitement around Edmonton to bookend your game.

La Boheme

Located fewer than 6 kilometers from Rogers Place, La Boheme is a charming restaurant and bed-and-breakfast set in a provincially designated historic site, making it an ideal dining option if you're planning a date night. The interior even features an original Edwardian-pressed tin ceiling, providing an authentic European feel. Entrees consist of gourmet French favorites such as poisson du jour, filet mignon, and duck a l'orange. Just be sure to make online reservations ahead of time to ensure a timely arrival that works around the game's schedule.

Sabor Restaurant

For Iberian coastal fare, head to Sabor Restaurant. Less than a 5-minute walk from Rogers Place, this upscale eatery is in an ideal spot for attending an Oilers game. The classic Portuguese and Spanish cuisines include tapas, fresh Mediterranean-style fish, risotto, pasta, and other favorites. In addition to locally blended organic teas and coffee, you can also order from the restaurant's extensive list of liqueur and wine. Reservations are recommended, especially during a game night.

Sofra Turkish Restaurant & Wine Cellar

If you prefer a more laidback space, Sofra may just fit the bill. This authentic Turkish eatery serves up generous portions of kebabs, stuffed grape leaves, forno-baked pizza, pita bread, grilled vegetables, and many other savory dishes. There's also a savory selection of wine, martinis, Champagne, spirits, and after-dinner coffees. Being a popular spot that can get especially crowded around an Oilers game, you may want to call ahead to reserve a spot at Sofra.

Kelly's Pub

When upscale dining and international cuisine are feeling a bit much for game day, head to Kelly's Pub before or after the game to enjoy a great pint. This lively pub is open daily until 2 a.m., and it features a revolving list of specials to tempt any palate. Enjoy Happy House premium pints, house wines, or imports; late-night fish or pulled-pork tacos; pizza; fish and chips; or steak sandwiches, all served in a warm, energetic atmosphere where sports are the main attraction.

The Canadian Brewhouse

Another great option for a pint is The Canadian Brewhouse, which is just a couple of blocks from Rogers Place. Despite being a national chain, this popular pub offers a quick bite when you're in a rush, not to mention daily specials that help you save a few bucks. Enjoy a tankard of your favorite drink along with New York strip, dry ribs, jumbo shrimp, boneless wings, and other pub favorites, all in an environment that will have you pumped for the game.

With so many food and drink options around downtown Edmonton, you're never short of options. Where is your favorite place to go before or after an Oilers game? We'd love to hear about it!
