Jeep
may not be what comes to mind when looking for a family vehicle. However, don't
rule the adventure-seeking Jeep out. There are some great Jeep models that will
fit the needs of a small family. It's also the ideal choice for the family who
enjoys the outdoors and road trips. Here are four of the most family-friendly
Jeeps.
All-New Wrangler
This is the authentic Jeep — the one that still carries that
original Jeep DNA from its early years. Rugged and tough, it's the Jeep for the
family who loves venturing off the beaten track. Made for the wild, the
Wrangler boasts true 4x4 off-roading skills.
Some may find this Jeep too bouncy but, remember, it is a Jeep;
it's built to tackle uneven ground. If you have kids who love roughing it,
they're going to love the bumpy ride and the fact that it can take them nearly
anywhere to satisfy their need to explore. The Wrangler has the option of a
zipperless soft top and kids will love riding around with the top off.
Grand Cherokee SUV
If a midsize SUV is what you're looking for, the Grand Cherokee is
an excellent choice. The base Laredo trim is more than adequate for the family
with features that include a seven-inch touch-screen display, SiriusXM radio, smartphone
integration, and 60/40 split folding rear seats. The Grand Cherokee comfortably
seats five passengers. It offers 36 cubic feet of cargo space that opens up to
68 cubic feet with the rear seats down. If the Laredo is too basic, there are
10 other trims to choose from to suit your needs in terms of comfort and
luxury.
Cherokee Crossover
If you're looking for a lower-priced crossover, then the Cherokee
fits the bill. Priced CA$12,400 lower than the Grand Cherokee, the 2019 base
Latitude trim with four-wheel-drive will cost CA$32,495. It's smaller than the
Grand Cherokee but still packs a punch. Its compact size makes it ideal to run
around the city but it also has some decent off-roading abilities that give it
an advantage over other crossovers. This means you can do the daily school run
and plan some great family vacations to remote spots. Jeep adds a
hands-free power liftgate in 2019, making it easy to access the cargo area when
carrying grocery bags.
Compass Crossover
The Compass is another great family crossover. The two crossovers may look similar but
there are differences. The Compass only offers a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine
while the Cherokee has a 3.2-liter V-6 option. Interestingly, the Cherokee has
a slightly bigger build yet the Compass has more cargo space: 59.8 cubic feet
compared to 54.9 in the Cherokee.
If fuel efficiency is important, the Compass is the more
fuel-efficient Jeep. It also offers a nice suite of safety features that
include a high-strength steel body frame, electronic stability control,
antilock brakes, traction control, tire pressure monitoring, rain brake
support, and a rear backup camera. Optional features include parking assist,
lane departure warning, and blind-spot and cross-path detection.
