Every Roof Option on the 2026 Jeep Wrangler

The Wrangler has always been about freedom - the freedom to drop the doors, fold the windshield, and feel the trail under your tires. But the roof is where that freedom starts. Jeep offers more roof configurations on the Wrangler than any other vehicle in its lineup, and each one changes how you experience the open air.

Alberta's weather swings hard - spring mornings can start below freezing and hit 20°C by afternoon. Summer road trips to the Rockies mean sun, wind, and sudden mountain storms. The roof you choose affects comfort, noise, convenience, and how quickly you can adapt when the weather shifts.

The Sunrider Soft-Top - Standard on Sport and Rubicon

The Sunrider soft-top is standard on two-door and four-door Sport and Rubicon models. It's a three-layer fabric top with zippered rear and side windows. The entire top can be folded back in sections or removed completely.

The Sunrider is the lightest roof option and easiest to stow for full open-air driving. You can unzip the rear window for ventilation, fold the roof back to the rear crossbar for half-open configuration, or remove it completely in about 15 minutes with two people.

This roof works best if you plan to go topless regularly during summer. It's quieter than older soft-tops but still louder than a hardtop at highway speeds. Wind noise picks up above 100 km/h, and you'll hear rain. The fabric holds up well in Alberta winters, but brush off snow and ice before driving to avoid frame stress.

The Sunrider is included at no extra cost on Sport and Rubicon trims, making it the most accessible option for open-air capability.

The Black Three-Piece Hardtop - Standard on Sahara

The black three-piece hardtop is standard on four-door Sahara models and includes removable front panels and a removable rear section. It comes with rear window defroster, rear wiper and washer, and a Freedom Panel storage bag.

The two front panels lift off individually and stow in the rear cargo area. The rear section requires two people to remove but comes off without tools.

This roof is quieter than the Sunrider at highway speeds and provides better winter insulation. You'll notice less wind noise and a warmer cabin when temperatures drop. The trade-off is weight - the full hardtop adds roughly 45 kg compared to the soft-top, slightly affecting fuel economy and making removal more of a commitment.

The black hardtop works well if you want occasional open-air capability but spend most time with the roof on. It's the strongest choice for year-round Edmonton driving, where winter lasts longer than summer and highway noise matters on long commutes.

The Body-Colour Three-Piece Hardtop - Optional on Rubicon, Standard on Moab 392

The body-colour three-piece hardtop is available as part of the Body-colour Three-piece Hardtop Group on Rubicon and comes standard on Moab 392. It includes the same rear window defroster, rear wiper and washer, and Freedom Panel storage bag as the Sahara's black hardtop.

This is the same modular design as the black hardtop but painted to match the vehicle's exterior colour. It's a visual upgrade that makes the Wrangler look more cohesive. The functionality is identical - two removable front panels, one removable rear section, and the same insulation and noise reduction benefits.

The body-colour hardtop is the strongest choice if you want hardtop refinement with flexibility to remove panels when weather cooperates. It's standard on the Moab 392 and a popular Rubicon add-on for buyers wanting a cleaner look without sacrificing open-air capability.

The Sky One-Touch Powertop and Dual Top Group - Not Available for 2026

The Sky One-Touch Powertop, a power-retractable soft-top available on previous model years, is not offered on the 2026 lineup. If you're looking for a power-operated roof, the 2026 Wrangler does not include that option.

The Dual Top Group, which previously allowed buyers to order both a soft-top and hardtop together at a discount, is also unavailable for 2026. If you want both roof types, you'll need to purchase the second top separately through Mopar accessories after delivery.

How Roof Choice Affects Noise, Weight, and Fuel Economy

The Sunrider soft-top is the lightest option, helping fuel economy slightly and keeping the centre of gravity lower. Wind noise is noticeable at highway speeds, especially on long stretches heading west toward Jasper. Rain sounds louder, and you'll hear more road noise.

The hardtop adds roughly 45 kg, which increases fuel consumption marginally. The benefit is a quieter cabin - highway cruising is more comfortable, and winter driving is noticeably warmer. The hardtop also reduces vibration and flex, making the Wrangler feel more solid on rough roads.

If you plan to remove the roof frequently, the soft-top is easier to manage. If you plan to leave the roof on most of the time, the hardtop is stronger for daily driving comfort.

The Right Roof for Alberta Driving

If you're buying a Wrangler in Edmonton, the hardtop makes sense for most of the year. Winters are long, and the insulation and noise reduction are worth the extra weight. The soft-top works well if you plan to spend most time on trails or want the lightest possible setup for off-road driving.

The modular design of the black and body-colour hardtops gives you balance - a quiet, insulated cabin when panels are on, and open-air freedom when you remove them. The Sunrider soft-top is most versatile if you plan to go topless regularly, but it requires more maintenance and doesn't hold up as well in winter storage.
