Whether you have a large family, need to get your team from A to B
and back again safely, or have a bunch of kids to transport for school or extracurricular
activities, the minivan is a trusted solution. But with so many choices on the
market it can be difficult to know exactly which to go for, especially when
they can appear, at face value, to be very similar in many respects.
Chrysler
recently released the 2018 Pacifica and we thought we'd see how it measures up to
one of its competitors, the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan. They both provide an
extremely practical and high-quality mode of transport for all the family, but
how do they stack up against each other?
The 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan vs 2018
Chrysler Pacifica
There are numerous similarities between the 2018 Dodge Grand
Caravan and the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. Both models boast seating for up to
seven passengers, as well as fold-down seats. While the Chrysler Pacifica has
slightly less cargo space in the interior, it makes up for it with better gas
mileage and higher engine output. Yet the Grand Caravan has been well-established
as a best-selling minivan for several years and offers excellent quality at a
lower price than the Pacifica.
Both models are packed with family-friendly features like a
built-in navigation system and rear seat entertainment, so let's look at
specifics.
Engine Specs
The
engine specs on both models are extremely impressive. Let's start with the 2018
Dodge Grand Caravan, which features a powerful 3.6-liter V-6 engine capable of
283 horsepower plus 260 lb-ft of torque rounded out with a 6-speed automatic
transmission. The V6 engine packs a real punch and certainly makes an
impression.
Meanwhile,
the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica may be even more impressive, with the
option for a gasoline engine offering a slightly higher level of horsepower
(287) and torque (262 lb-ft). The Pacifica is also available with a second
engine option, the hybrid powertrain, which will save you a tidy sum at the
pump. It is the hybrid engine that gives the Pacifica the edge, being far more
efficient, not to mention eco-friendly.
Attractive Styles
It's
not just what's under the hood that makes this pair of minivans so attractive.
The Chrysler Pacifica is a great looking machine that packs a lot of
practicality into a surprisingly slick exterior. The styling and design are
splashy and very nice to look at, while it's by far the best minivan on the
market currently where flexibility is concerned.
The
2018 Dodge Grand Caravan is somewhat less svelte in the style department, yet
it's a lot of bang for your buck, and the Stow ‘n' Go seats make it very
versatile.
Conclusion
While
the Dodge has lots of great features it's not quite up to specs in terms of
modern van requirements. The Pacifica certainly has the edge in terms of engine
efficiency alone, making it a clear winner when compared to the Grand Caravan.
