Not that being the envy of your neighbors is the 'be all and end all'; I definitely detected this phenomenon while tooling around for a few days in a very sharp looking Chrysler 300 SRT. Almost everything about this vehicle screams luxury, safety, and power! And the driving experience delivers on all three counts.
Upon climbing into the 300 SRT one is immediately surrounded by premium materials and appointments such as double-stitched Laguna leather seats and carbon-fibre accents. The cabin is spacious and comfortably accommodates passengers of all sizes. Putting your foot on the brake pedal and depressing the electronic ignition button starts the engine (very quiet for a 6.4L Hemi V8) and lights up the neatly arranged instrument panel. The Uconnect 8.4 multimedia centre screen is front row center and provides you access to a universe of features including the 19-speaker Harmon/Kardon sound system, advanced climate controls, navigation system, etc. and also provides a perfect viewing area for the ParkView Rear Back-up camera.
Pulling effortlessly away from your parking stall and hitting the open road, you can sense the energy of the 470hp engine. It is comforting to know that while this is an eight-cylinder vehicle the FuelSaver Multi-Displacement System (MDS) automatically transitions to just 4 cylinders when all 8 are not called for! This innovation results in a 7.8L/100km mileage ratio, fantastic for a vehicle of this size. And when you need to "punch" it, it is comforting to know that you have all that power in reserve.
Cruising down the highway or tooling around town, one feels incredibly safe in the 300. Safety features such as Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Forward Lighting (headlights actually peak around the corners), Rear Cross-Path Detection, and Blind-Spot Monitoring abound. On demand Adaptive Cruise Control is also available and this feature, if you haven't experienced it, is a real treat on the highway. There is no more having to constantly re-engage the cruise control each time you are forced to slow down and you can automatically maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you.
On several occasions I had the opportunity to take along some passengers and in every instance they commented on the comfortable ride and the subtle power of the 300SRT. They liked the SRT badging tastefully adorning the sepia leather seats and they couldn't get over the rich, true sounds of the Harmon Kardon which filled the chamber.
If you want a vehicle that says, "I've made it!" and you want a vehicle that is luxurious, safe, and powerful in equal measure; then the Chrysler 300 is a good bet
